Moira Shire is located in the northeast of the GMID, and is bordered by the Greater Shepparton City Council, and the Campaspe, Benalla, Indigo and Wangaratta shires.

The Murray River runs along the northern border of the shire area, where the largest river red gum forests in the world are located. Moira Shire has the third largest population in the GMID, with major towns including Yarrawonga, Cobram, Nathalia and Numurkah.

Agriculture, food processing and tourism industries are the main drivers of Moira Shire's economy.

 

 

Moira Shire is a vibrant and progressive place in which to live, work and do business. In fact, so many people are choosing to call Moira home, that it is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria.

Moira Shire offers the best of provincial living, with all the advantages of lower costs of housing, excellent shopping, quality education and health services, extensive sport and recreation facilities and community activities and a warm Mediterranean climate. The region provides all theses advantages, with easy access to Melbourne and larger regional centres such as Shepparton, Wangaratta and Albury Wodonga.

Housing
Offering a wide range of lifestyles - urban, rural, small town or farming environments - quality housing is available for purchase or rental in all parts of Moira Shire. Housing and rental prices in Moira shire are considerably lower than Melbourne and major Victorian regional centres.

In smaller towns in the region, expect to pay between about $140,000 and $200,000 for a three or four-bedroom home within walking distance of a primary school, and between $180,000 and $350,000 in Cobram and Yarrawonga.

Education
Residents of Moira have excellent access to quality educational facilities ranging from kindergartens, preschools, private and public primary and secondary schools. Tertiary education is provided by the nearby regional campuses of Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE, La Trobe University and Charles Sturt University. These educational facilities are supported by Open Learning facilities in Cobram, Numurkah and Yarrawonga, which offer some TAFE qualifications without having to travel out of the Shire.

Health
The health of the Moira residents region is well cared for, offering a full range of health services comparable to many metropolitan areas. Hospitals offering a range of clinical services are located in Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga. Dentists, pharmacies, maternal child health centres, doctors and community nurses are available across the municipality. There is also a wide variety of experienced allied and alternative health practitioners within the region.

Recreation
Residents and visitors to Moira will never be bored with access to recreation reserves, which are home to a range of sporting pursuits such as football, cricket, soccer and netball, numerous stadiums, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water slides, day spas, gyms and skate parks through to the beautiful state and national parks surrounding the municipality and within easy reach for bushwalkers.
