Community hub gains momentum

community hub gainsThe township of Inglewood is looking to build a community hub in their ionic Town Hall.

Loddon Shire has begun the process of establishing a new community hub in the gold mining town of Inglewood and the iconic Inglewood Town Hall is the favored site.
The hub would provide a central location for large community events in the town as well as a space for community classes like tai chi and craft.
Manager for community planning Tim Jenkyn said the hub would be a multipurpose space which would include an administration area.
"The facility would be used on a day to day basis and would also provide training facilities and business opportunities for the community," Mr Jenkyn said.
A number of local groups have been working together on the project including the Inglewood Community Resource Centre, the Inglewood Town Hall Committee, the Inglewood and District Community Bank, Council, State Government and community members representing a wide range of interests.
After three project reference group meetings, targeted information sessions, promotion and community surveys a draft strategic plan has been released.
"The town hall is an old gracious building. It is the only two story building council owns in the shire and a community hub would utilise this through a range of activities."
Mr Jenkyn said the groups were looking at innovative ways to use the space inside and out.
"This would become the main public square in the township of Inglewood."
