Loddon Profile

The Loddon Shire is bordered by the Campaspe, Greater Bendigo, Mount Alexander,
Central Goldfields, Northern Grampians, Buloke and Gannawarra shires. The Loddon River flows through the middle of the municipality.

The shire has excellent transport networks with freight and passenger rail services available. Loddon is also very well serviced with road transport connections including the three major highways of the Calder, Wimmera and Loddon Valley which enable travel times to Melbourne within approximately 2 hours and Bendigo in 30 minutes. Highway and road network connections also enable easy access to other centres to the North including Mildura and further West to Adelaide and then on to Western Australia and Perth.

The agricultural industry is the main driver of the Loddon Shire economy, and provides employment for a significant percentage of the regional workforce.

Water for agriculture is supplied through a combination of the Waranga Western Channel feeding the North of the Shire, with the Loddon River and ground water resources servicing central and Southern areas.
