Greater Shepparton Profile

The Greater Shepparton City Council is a large regional centre in the south-east of the GMID, and bordered in Victoria by the Moira, Campaspe, Strathbogie and Benalla shires.

Despite being the smallest municipality in the GMID region, the Greater Shepparton City Council has the largest population of all of the shires. Major towns in this shire include Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura.

The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as the 'Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

With housing affordability reaching low levels across the country in recent years, Greater Shepparton is a reasonably priced option. Award-winning housing estates, such as the picturesque Kialla Lakes, through to semi rural and rural lifestyles are found in the towns surrounding Shepparton. Inner-city townhouses, farms, the traditional quarter-acre block and new residential developments on the outskirts of town deliver an impressive accommodation mix.

When compared to the Melbourne median house price of $463,488, Shepparton's average home price of about $232,000 appeals.
