Milk company supports community

Community groups across the Shepparton, Gannawarra and Campaspe Shires have beneftted to the tune of $20,000 in community grants from milk supply company Fonterra.

The community grants are part of the companies celebrations for achieving the mile stone of 10 years of operations in northern Victoria.

Site Manager of Fonterra’s Stanhope manufacturing site Brett Nilon said the company received a fantastic range of applications which made choosing the final recipients very difficult.

“Each of the groups selected is making an excellent contribution to our local communities in the three key areas that Fonterra looks to support; health and wellbeing, the advancement of the dairy industry, and sustainability,” Mr Nilon said.

To be eligible for a grant the groups needed to explain how their project aligned with Fonterra’s core values.

“Our local communities have given our business tremendous support over the past 10 years,

and we are pleased to be able to give something back to the groups and organisations making a difference here.”

Each grant recipient received a $1,000 to support their project and the grant program is part of a nationwide initiative that has seen over $110,000 donated across the country side.

Some of the community groups to receive the grant were the Stanhope junior

football and netball club to provide junior teams with the opportunity to play at least 2 games of football and netball prior to the season at the ‘Stanhope Football Netball Club Junior Pre Season Carnival, the Shepparton District Junior Football League to purchase new equipment and uniforms for the league’s 2012 season and the Golden Cow Education Centre at Tongala to enable the centre to update a video showcasing the dairy industry to

educate farmers and suppliers on the new technology that benefits sustainable farming.
